Winter/Spring Meeting Summer Convention

Fall

Trailride

The Winter/Spring Meeting is the shortest of the year and is usually held on a Saturday in February or March. The main purpose of this meeting is to finalize plans for the summer convention and to take care of any business items held over from prior meetings. A short training session is generally held in the morning.

REGULAR MEETING (meetings other that Conventions or Fall Campout)”

It can be a one-day affair, which is up to the host unit.  If more than one day, ample time should be allowed for travel home.

The one-day meeting should include at least one segment of training, but not too many so as to take up the whole day.

The general meeting should start in early afternoon to allow for all business can be conducted with a standard meeting agenda being followed.

Two-day meetings could include extended training or a fun shoot or other activities at the discretion of the host unit.

The state allows a $100/cap (with receipts) for convention expenses.

The convention is an annual meeting with elections and bylaws changes, or other business that is done annually.

The annual convention should be a three-day event, usually starting on Friday.  Convention dates can be scheduled anytime between May 1st and August 31st.  June has been proven to be the best, but is not always the case in North Idaho.

The convention should include a day of training (Friday) a day of fun (pistol shoot, road rally [driving skills], a first aid program, etc.), as well as the general meeting.  If all business is not completed on Saturday, a Sunday morning is available for completion.

A Saturday evening banquet should be planned for the presentation of all awards, (fun events, as well, annual awards).  The state allows a $300/cap (with receipts) for convention expenses.

Note!  Many of the old original unit members come for the fun events; they bring their families.  Activities can be planned for wives and children.

Registration should be in the amount to cover expenses.

This is a family get-together in the form of a camping trip. Ample time should be set aside for a fall meeting and the rest of the time can be fun events (muzzleloader shoot, horse shoe games, etc.).

A vehicle trip should be arranged to show off the country.

The state allows a $250/cap (with receipts) for convention expenses.

Labor Day weekend is a good time but is not always the case.

The site of the meetings are rotated throughout the state to give all members maximum opportunities to attend at least one of the annual meetings.  Each meeting is hosted by a local SAR unit.  There are funds to assist with some of the expenses and units may ask for reasonable registration fees from attendees.  Units can solicit donations from businesses in their communities.  Remind businessmen that donations may be tax deductible and that meetings bring additional revenue into the community.
