Communications, Phil Courtney - Report was read: "I have been working with Kootenai Co. to get a packet node on Schweitzer Mtn. All parties involved can get together Labor Day weekend to get it up. The node will serve the 3 northern counties and Canada. It will greatly enhance our emergency communication capabilities within the area, and eventually can be linked with other nodes all the way to the coast."
Quartermaster/ Treasurer, Olivia Giannasi - sent a report of officers expenses, trophies, Bonneville convention and balance of training fund monies.
Unit Reports Bear Lake, Reid Stewart -Our unit has had 7 searches, drowning in the lake, missing girl scouts, missing girls on the lake, missing girl in Paris. We had drowning practice and also scuba practices. Been busy with camp ground patrols, selling raffle tickets, and working on our building. We are getting prepared for our winter season of lost hunters and snowmobilers.
Bonner, Phil Courtney- Report was read: In mid August, I was called and asked to monitor a search. The search was called off before it started. Evelyn worked in the SAR food booth during the fair.
Custer, Chuck Felton -We have had a couple of searches, we brought a body off of Mount Bora, a hiker missing last week, life flight came in to help. Also a small child missing was found successfully in town.
Franklin, JD Drury -the unit has been fairly quiet, been doing camp ground patrol, 3 night rodeo and truck pulls that we provided security for.
Mini-Cassia, Dale Crowther- had 2 people stranded, they were 29 miles from Oakley, they separated and were both found.
Power, Pete Williams - Our unit has been fairly slow, we had a gentleman drown in the river, about 6 searches since then, we had a moose in lake, attempted suicide on the river, assisted in helping boats off the lake. We did a POW breakfast and served 650 people. With our salmon barbeque we served about 2500 people.
Montana: Ot Lemm: Our summer campout was held the end of July, we had good attendance about 65, We have not had a lot of summer rescues, mostly just helping with security and helping in the community. Membership is coming up very well. Ot invited everyone to next years National Convention that will be held in Anaconda, Montana on June 23-26.
Committee reports Web page, Evelyn Courtney -excused report was read. "I have put a 3 page ISSAR roster in Microsoft Works format for those that do not have Excel or I can do as the National have done and put it on a form or page and someone can copy and paste and reformat to their spreadsheet. Or there is another option, there is sufficient room with the new host to have a database with the roster of all members. We can have some sites password protected. This should generate some discussion at the meeting. The real question is: What do you want from your website?" We will discuss this later on the agenda.
Legislative: Sheriff Southwick was not present. Walt Charles reported nothing at this time.
Everett Bogart Award- It was motioned and passed at Convention that the present commander be the chair of that committee, and the past 6 recipients be on that committee. Commander JD Drury along with the past State Commanders present, presented Walt Rhodes the Everett Bogart Memorial Outstanding Member Award. Walt expressed his appreciation for being the recipient of this award, and a thanked his wife Joann for all her support. JD commented that Walt is very deserving of this award. We really appreciate having him. We have had him long enough to keep everyone in line and on their toes. You deserve this award.
Unfinished business Minutes - Commander JD Drury entertained a motion to accept the minutes moved by Cole Colvin, seconded by Gordon Wothe. Motion passed and minutes were accepted as printed.
Training, I have been trying to get a training list put together, I put out an email, so far I have received about six, so I am going to ask again. If you have training you would like to receive or training you would like to give others let JD know. Please include what type of training and a contact person. I will get it all compiled and posted on the web page. This is an excellent way to get training if we use it and share our knowledge and resources with others.
Scrapbooks, Marie Wothe- Norma has done an excellent job of doing the scrap books. ( Marie volunteered at convention to help put together a Past State Commanders scrapbook.) I have spent numerous hours on the phone trying to contact all of the past State Commandeers. Marie read a memorial that will be included in the front of the scrapbook. JD thanked Marie for taking on this project and helping to preserve the history of Idaho State Search & Rescue. Marie has made new books and carry bags for all the scrapbooks. Marie will keep the Commander scrapbook until it is up to date and complete. Please send your pictures in to Norma Charles for the scrapbook. Dale Crowther thanked Norma and Marie for all the work and time put into keeping the scrapbooks going and helping to preserve the history of the organization.
Electronic Roster- Doing this would help eliminate errors in spelling of hand written forms and you could have a copy on your PC that you could just update yearly instead of making a new one. C Lemm talked about how it has been working for National, we can save a lot of errors in doing the electronic forms. Evelyn has been working on a couple of different forms and ways to utilize the web site. It was decided that JD contact Evelyn and she can pursue options and keep the process as simple as possible.
New Business- Gordon asked that Custer Co. be thanked for the job they did in putting everything together for our meeting.
We need to send out a newsletter about the availability of training funds, cost sharing and search reimbursements. That way everyone will know what is available to them. Communication can also be made through the email and Yahoo groups. We need to support the sheriffs that are going to come in with new elections
Junior Membership- We discussed having a junior membership in the state. We need to get the younger generation involved in the organization. This would require a bylaw change to the current bylaws, JD set up a committee to look into having a junior membership. Pete Williams volunteered to head the committee, with Terry Stewart and Sandra Drury helping. We will need to set up guidelines and age limits. This would allow them to participate with training and other activities.
Training Funds- The District Rep's needs to be contacted and the surrounding units invited. If the District Rep cannot be contacted, it must be approved through the 1st Vice Commander.
We need to send letters to those serving our country, we can post who is serving and their addresses on the web site. Send the information to Evelyn so she can post it.
Future Meetings- Winter Meet will be held in American Falls on Feb 19, 2005. Training will be ice rescue with first aid and GPS. Lunch will be provided and door prizes.
Still need a bid for 2005 Convention.
Fall Trailride 2005 will be held in Camas County near Featherville. Norma Charles made a motion to accept Camas Co and Gooding for the host of the 2005 Fall campout, seconded by Stan Fenn.
Meeting was adjourned at 11:38 am
